  1. The MiniApps Pack, version 1.0, is a collection of mini-applications, small in
  2. size (6K each) but big on features and usefulness.
  3.  
  4. A MiniApp usually performs a single task, somewhat of a pre-configured macro
  5. wrapped in an application shell. There is no complex user interface or settings
  6. to configure. It knows what to do, how to do it, even when to quit.
  7.  
  8. MiniApps require System 7 and generally reside in the Apple Menu Items folder,
  9. where they can be reached easily. Although some may be better located in the
  10. Startup Items folder.
  11.  
  12. Contrary to systems extensions, which often provide similar functionality,
  13. MiniApps do not have permanent memory requirements and are not subject to
  14. annoying conflicts.

  16. The MiniApps Pack v1.0 is free. Commerical distribution is restricted.

  19. EmptyTrash:
  20. -----------

  22. System 7's trash doesn't empty automatically. There are alternatives available
  23. to remedy this shortcoming; some require you to install a system extension, or
  24. drag items to a special application.

  26. Avoid the possible extension conflicts and memory management issues. Make it
  27. easy on yourself... Place "EmptyTrash" in your "Startup Items" folder. The
  28. trash will automatically empty itself each time your Mac is restarted.
  29.  
  30. (NOTE: Holding the shift key down at boot time will prevent startup
  31. applications, such as EmptyTrash, from loading.)

  34. FinderToFront:
  35. --------------

  37. System 7's Startup Items folder allows you to start applications or open
  38. documents whenever your Mac starts up. Items enclosed in the Startup Items
  39. folder are launched in alphabetical order, the last one becoming the
  40. frontmost.

  42. This is a great feature, but often one would want the Finder to be frontmost as
  43. soon as all startup items are launched.
  44.  
  45. No sweat! Copy "~FinderToFront" to the Startup Items folder. The Finder will
  46. automatically come to front after all startup items have loaded.

  48. (NOTE: The ~ placed at the beginning of FinderToFront ensures it is always
  49. launched last.)

  52. QuitAllApps:

  55. "I wish I could quit all opened applications at once!"
  56.  
  57. No problems! Place "QuitAllApps" into your Apple Menu Items folder; quitting
  58. all opened applications will become a one step selection from the Apple Menu.

  60. (NOTE: Applications which do not support high-level events may not quit as
  61. expected.)

  64. QuitFinder:

  67. Want to save yourself 300K or more by quitting the Finder when you don't need
  68. it?

  70. Easy! Copy "QuitFinder" to your Apple Menu Items folder. To "quit" the Finder
  71. simply select "QuitFinder" from the Apple Menu.

  73. (NOTE: Quitting all applications and desk accessories automatically re-launches
  74. the Finder.)

  77. Restart:

  80. Have you ever wanted to Restart your Mac without having to switch back to the
  81. finder?

  83. Put "Restart" into your Apple Menu Items folder and you won't have to!
  84. Just select "Restart" from the Apple Menu.

  90. In a hurry? Need to shut down your Mac fast?

  92. Place "ShutDown" in your Apple Menu Items folder to make it available from the
  93. Apple Menu.

  99. No need to buy a memory-hungry system extension to put your PowerBook to sleep
  100. or invoke your favorite Mac screen saver.

  102. Copy "Sleep" to your Apple Menu Items folder and "Sleep" will become available
  103. to all your favorite applications via the Apple Menu.
